Among the North Carolina School Calendar Legislation requirements:
- The calendar must consist of 215 days, divided among instructional school days, teacher workdays, annual leave days and holidays.
- There must be a minimum of 185 days or 1025 hours of instruction covering at least nine calendar months.
- The first day of school for students can be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26.
